A video-based storytelling series of emerging leaders in democracy

Everyday Political Citizen contest

Over the past five years, Samara Canada’s Everyday Political Citizen contest has profiled over 1,000 ordinary people who make Canadian democracy stronger. For the first time ever, with the support of the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, Samara has collaborated with ten of these Everyday Political Citizens to tell their stories of engagement. Showcasing the full diversity of what it looks like to be an engaged Canadian, Samara’s Everyday Political Citizen storytelling series brings to life the experiences, motivations, and insights of advocates, organizers, and educators from across the country, working on issues such as mental health, youth engagement, and violence against Indigenous women and girls. Featuring filmed interviews as well as photos and footage provided by participants, this storytelling series inspires Canadians to engage in our democracy while introducing them to the valuable work of organizations like Wishing Well Sanctuary, Ontario Dementia Advisory Group, Helping Hands, Youth for Lateral Kindness, and Butterflies in Spirit. Samara Canada is excited to partner with these groups to disseminate the videos to an even wider online audience.
