The Rick Hansen Foundation was established in 1988, following the completion of Rick Hansen’s Man In Motion World Tour, to continue raising funds and awareness to create a world without barriers for people with disabilities. To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday and the 30th anniversary of the Rick Hansen Man In Motion World Tour, the Access4All Canada 150 Signature Initiative is inspiring and empowering youth and community leaders across the country to create a more inclusive and accessible Canada.

With funding support from the Government of Canada, the Foundation is providing grants of up to $30,000 to at least 50 schools and community groups to undertake infrastructure improvement projects and awareness building events in their communities. These “Barrier Buster” projects will help remove physical barriers in public spaces and create awareness about accessibility across Canada.

A Barrier Buster project has two parts:
1. An infrastructure improvement to the built environment in a public space to remove physical barriers and improve accessibility (e.g., a school, community centre, park, library, church hall or theatre.) AND
2. An associated awareness building event designed to showcase and celebrate the project.

Visit www.rickhansen.com/access4all for information, tips on starting a Barrier Buster project and to apply for a grant. Grants applications are open until March 31, 2017 but early applications are encouraged as they are assessed on a first come, first served basis.

Access4All is breaking down barriers in communities from coast to coast and create real and lasting impact for Canadians with disabilities.
