Raising the Roof is a national leader on long-term solutions to homelessness and achieves this by bringing awareness and attention to the challenges of homelessness and by engaging Canadians through public education. Our three primary focal areas:
1. Prevention: our national initiatives focus on specific issues and populations, giving real solutions to reducing and preventing homelessness.
2. Education and Engagement: our national public education campaigns bring attention to the issue of homelessness as we provide Canadians with important information about the issue, and encourage audiences to get involved in solutions.
3. Local Community Support: our national Toque Campaign sees hundreds of volunteers and supporters sell toques across the country, with all proceeds benefiting partner agencies who work directly with people experiencing homelessness.
Raising the Roof’s nationwide initiatives include:
1. The Upstream Project: a program which supports communities in the implementation of effective school-based strategies, in order to reduce the number of young people who become homeless.
2. Host Homes: a program which offers a safe, vetted home for youth to stay in as an alternative to the shelter system.
3. Reside: a program which renovates vacant and unused properties and repurposes them as affordable housing for families and youth who are at-risk of homelessness.
