The Port Moody Ecological Society is a 100% volunteer-operated training facility whose mandate is to operate a salmon hatchery and water quality testing laboratory located on land owned by the City of Port Moody. Each year, our volunteers donate 10,000 hours of their time operating the hatchery, conducting water quality testing in our laboratory, participating in community outreach programmes – including our own environmental festival that attracts over 80 organisation and 5,500 visitors from Metro Vancouver per year. We also conduct over 50 school programmes throughout the year. Our volunteers, lead by Dave Bennie, developed an interpretive trail and a community invasive species removal project.
Acknowledging that we are on the unceded, occupied, ancestral and traditional lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish),Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
