Founded in 1991, Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) is the only HIV organization in Brampton. Our mandate also includes Caledon and Mississauga. PHAN is committed to serving diverse people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to limiting the transmission of the virus through support, education, advocacy and volunteerism.
Our focus includes two core areas. 1.) HIV and sexually transmitted illness prevention activities. These include workshops and trainings for individuals and communities living with HIV or affected by HIV as well as health, social service providers and educators. General awareness activities are conducted to raise profile of HIV in the general public which includes media/social media activities and community outreach, events, and conferences. 2.) Care, support, and engagement activities for people living with HIV, their families and caregivers. This includes case management, referrals to internal and external services, emergency financial grants, and one-on-one support to health and social service practitioners serving people living with HIV. Programs also include training and support of peer-led programs, wellness and chronic care workshops, and Speakers’ bureau of trained individuals living with HIV to share stories publicly.
Our agency is comprised of 11 dedicated, full-time staff members, and a healthy roster of committed volunteers and student placements.
