Since 2010, Muslim Food Bank and Community Services has served Metro Vancouver through its food assistance and community support programming. We aim to be a sustainable community-based organisation that promotes education, empathy and dignity through holistic intervention. Our organization has two main divisions through which programs are administered; the Food Bank and the ASPIRE Community Services Program.
Through our Food Bank we distribute food hampers to approximately 600 families on a monthly basis, provide meals to homeless individuals in Vancouver’s DTES and support newly arrived refugees with Welcome Packages that, in addition to food, include baby supplies other household items. We also distribute used furniture and clothing.
Our ASPIRE Community Services Program helps our clients overcome barriers to self-reliance by facilitating a number of initiatives including:
Community Casework: helping clients progress towards self-reliance through employment and education and emotional support
Youth Support Programs. These include
Youth Development: outreach, academic support, safe space facilitation, mentorship
Prison Outreach: supporting incarcerated youth through social-emotional learning and restorative justice
Mental Health: casework for mental health and substance abuse
Soccer Training: engaging children and youth through sport
Community Capacity Building: facilitating educational workshops for community members
