LOWAC is a non-profit arts organization whose mandate is to promote unity, joy and opportunity through the arts in the Kenora area. Since its inception in 2008, LOWAC has emerged as the voice for visual arts and community arts in the Kenora area. Ongoing activities include participation in the Community Foundation’s Festival of Trees event; donations of art supplies to Kenora’s Christmas Miracle Marathon; Fun Mondays which are an opportunity for artists to get together, share skills and enjoy camaraderie. We have also partnered with the LOW Museum to create an art exhibit that honours Kenora’s War Brides; hosted Muskies on Main, a 2014 outdoor community art exhibit which celebrated our deep connection to the Lake of the Woods; hosted numerous smaller art exhibits which offered participants an opportunity to grow as artists; partnered with Northwest Business Development to host a series of workshops on the business end of art; and this summer hosted Dip, Dip and Swing, an art exhibit which celebrated Kenora’s hosting of the Rowing Events for the Canada Summer Games and the opening of the Trans-Canada Trail. LOWAC continues to play an active leadership role in the growth of the arts and culture sector in Kenora.
