Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre is western Canada’s premier Indigenous Theatre Company. GTNT has a mandate to produce and present innovative, cultural, theatre experiences that engage and empower Indigenous youth, artists, and the greater Saskatchewan community. Our company was the dream of the late Gordon Tootoosis and his colleagues, Tantoo Cardinal and Kennetch Charlette, while they worked on the film Big Bear. They were passionate about creating space in the performing arts for young, culturally-grounded, Indigenous artists. GTNT’s approach has always been to focus on theatre that is relevant to and, whenever possible, created by Indigenous people from Saskatchewan.

We are a professional theatre company that produces plays from Canada’s leading Indigenous playwrights. GTNT also runs a youth-oriented program, the Circle of Voices, dedicated to reconnecting Indigenous youth with their culture. We provide a fun and safe environment for children to learn, play and create their own stories through our Playhouse program, which is open to all children between the ages of 8-11 in five Saskatoon public schools.
