Organizations serving newcomers and the community at large and volunteers work together to welcome newcomers to Canada and Cochrane through welcome events and education sessions in the community. Twice yearly Welcome Nights are held, and an annual Community Picnic in late August celebrates diversity with residents who are new and lived in the area long-term in the spirit of welcoming, inclusion and learning from each other. In addition, education sessions are held for newcomers as well as sessions for residents and professionals on cultural awareness and understanding.
