Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel’s mission is to inspire and empower children and youth through the power of mentoring relationships. We serve over 1880 children and youth (ages 6-17) in Peel Region in 12 community & school-based mentoring programs each year. We create and supervise mentoring relationships between caring volunteers and vulnerable children and youth.
Children and youth being referred face a range of challenges and barriers, including poverty, mental health problems, bullying, school challenges, immigration and settlement, family stress and isolation.
Volunteer mentors are thoroughly screened in a process that is mandated by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada National Standards of Service Delivery. Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Programs are a model of service delivery that promotes positive youth development. Outcomes for children and youth include increased resiliency and self-efficacy, a sense of hope for the future, a more positive attitude about school and improved relationships with peers and family.
