Roundtable Discussion: Mapping Local Achievements with the SDGs

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015, are designed to guide local and global efforts to address major issues such as poverty, hunger, injustice, environmental destruction and climate change, for everyone, everywhere by 2030.

In order to work with this new framework, we are hosting a roundtable workshop to explore how the SDGs relate to the work of local groups and organizations in Saskatchewan, and how groups are already achieving these goals either locally or globally. The roundtable is part of a series of meetings and aims to make visible the amazing work already happening on the SDGs in Canada and to share this work provincially and nationally.

OBJECTIVES:
The roundtable will explore how we can use these goals to support our work and strengthen our impact. A short overview of the SDGs and Canada’s commitment to them will be followed by group discussions that address the following key questions:

1. What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and why do they matter?
2. How do the SDGs relate to your organization’s work locally and/or globally?
3. How can the SDGs be an opportunity for greater collaboration and impact?

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Advocates, staff, students, educators, volunteers, business leaders, policy-makers, service-providers, funders and entrepreneurs interested in:
Anti-poverty | Community health | Ecosystem health | Gender equality | Homelessness solutions | Human rights | Peace and inter-cultural understanding | Renewable energy | Social enterprise | Sustainable business, communities and infrastructure | Sustainable food systems | Water quality and access

BACKGROUND:
The roundtable is part of a series of meetings and aims to make visible the amazing work already happening on the SDGs in Canada and to share this work provincially and nationally. One result of the meetings so far has been the creation of an online Movement Map where groups can see what other groups are doing and which will ideally generate greater collaboration as well as public and government support for each group’s work.
