National Social Value Fund

The National Social Value Fund (NSVF) is a non-profit that invests in social purpose organizations who address local gaps in communities across Canada. We are a network of local Social Value Funds who find and back local social businesses, enterprising non-profits and co-ops. We finance with a blend of granted and invested capital, so that our investments support a venture’s ability to generate impact.

Through our low-cost, non-profit owned structure we marry concessionary financial return with superior social return for a national suite of investors. To do so we put self-formed multidisciplinary student teams in a position to make high quality investment decisions in their communities.

Each year, across the country, we challenge and support this next generation of leaders to think critically about the role of finance and business in supporting social and environmental issues. Our model supports students who will go on to run funds of their own, work in top public sector positions, push forward large corporate firms, and will go on to realize a litany of other remarkable achievements. This experience is transformative; it ensures graduates carry an impact-first framework forward with them in the pursuit of these goals and subsequently shift thinking and business processes towards a more inclusive economy, and a more sustainable world.
