The Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development’s mandate is to coordinate and facilitate Memorial University’s activities relating to regional policy and development, and advise on building the University’s capacity and identify priority themes and projects relating to teaching, research and outreach.

The Mission of the Harris Centre is to encourage informed public policy and regional development in Newfoundland and Labrador by supporting communication and collaboration between Memorial University and the people of this province.

A key part of Memorial University, the Centre helps diverse groups and individuals connect with the research resources of Memorial, through teaching, research, and outreach initiatives. The Harris Centre links Memorial researchers with groups all over Newfoundland and Labrador, supporting active community engagement throughout the research process. The Centre coordinates regional workshops, public policy forums, research funds, regional population projections, Yaffle, Memorial’s online connecting tool, the Vital Signs report, and more.

Our Community Fund for Canada’s 150th project is Newfoundland and Labrador’s Vital Signs report, an annual check-up on quality of life in our province that looks at how our communities are faring in key areas such as wellness, economy, and safety. This initiative is a partnership with the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
