The Fort Museum is a not-for-profit organization with the mandate to acquire, preserve, study, interpret and make available for research, artifacts and archival materials relating to the history of the North West Mounted Police and Fort Macleod. As the first out-post of the NWMP the Fort Museum has a significant collection of artefacts, some that are so rare they are of National significance.
Just as important as our collection, we are the birthplace of the famous RCMP Musical Ride, and as such we offer the only on site Musical Ride in all of Canada. This piece of living history has preformed four times daily in the summer months for over 43 years, and is a significant part of Canada’s history. The North West Mounted Musical Ride is historically accurate with uniforms, tack and colour of horse.
The Fort Museum has award winning programs from our school program called “March of the Red Coats” which received a Receiver General Award for Historical Programming and a Destination Canada Signature Experience called “Groom a Horse” where guest can go behind the scenes to get a mount ready for the Musical Ride.
Visitors from all over the world come the the Fort Museum annually to enjoy learning the rich history of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The Fort Museum is a recognized museum with the Alberta Museum Association and the Canadian Museum Association.
