Established in 1889, North Pacific Cannery (NPC) is the oldest remaining intact salmon cannery on the West Coast of North America. Designated a National Historic Site by Parks Canada in 1985 North Pacific Cannery commemorates the role of BC’s fishing and canning industries in the economic and cultural development of Western BC, Canada, and the continent. The site consists of 30+ buildings and structures representing the factory operations and employee living quarters of a multi-ethnic workforce and one of the formative industries of British Columbia. NPC now serves as an important tourist attraction and local community hub in the region. Employing 2 full-time permanent staff and up to 14 seasonal staff for visitor services, the site’s main offerings include guided tours, cafe, gift shop, accommodations, and special events.
