HLF is the provider of charitable funding to the Halton District School Board’s (HDSB) 62,000 students who attend 105 elementary/secondary schools. No other charity or non-profit organization provides the depth and breadth of support to the HDSB. Since 1998, the HLF has provided more than $4.5 million directly to support schools and more than 8,000 students.

HLF was created to deliver three specific programs to support HDSB elementary and secondary students. The Engagement Fund Program provides financial assistance to schools to support innovative educational programs that are outside the scope of the school’s budget. These projects focus on mental health, physical education, arts and music, media literacy and the environment. The Scholarship Program offsets the cost of post-secondary studies, including university, college and apprenticeships for students-in-need. The Eliminating Barriers Program provides emergency financial support to students from low-income families who do not have the means to provide the basic necessities, with the goal of helping students continue to attend school and remain engaged in learning.
