Shaw Festival

The Shaw Festival is one of Canada’s largest cultural institutions and an internationally recognized repertory theatre company. Located in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, The Shaw presents 10-12 productions annually in four theatres in a season which stretches from April through December.

With new leadership (both artistic and administrative), we are redefining our plans and priorities to bring the 55 year-old Festival fully into the 21st century, with an overarching goal to create a more engaging and engaged company.

Artistic Director Tim Carroll’s first season will be in 2017. Key to his vision for The Shaw is what he calls “two-way theatre”. A broad term for an approach to theatre that is actively engaged in talking with and listening to its audience, as well as performing for them.

The Shaw is also committed to promoting professional development within the company, as well as audience outreach. The proposed projects will support Tim Carroll’s vision of a company that is more outgoing and accessible.
