“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton is committed to expanding our reach of quality, inclusive mentoring services to children and youth in our community.”

Creating a strong, unified, healthy community starts with empowering children. To ignite positive change, Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a variety of different mentoring programs both in and outside of schools. When we provide a mentor to a child, we are providing them with a positive role model who teaches them the importance of giving back and being respectful to friends, family, and peers. These attributes will not only help a child be successful in school and their own endeavours, but creates a cycle of success in a community, leading to a reduction in poverty, safer schools and neighbourhoods, and a renewed optimism for growth.

To Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton, Canada’s sesquicentennial is an opportunity to celebrate the volunteerism that our nation is built on. Since Oakville’s establishment in 1827, the town has continuously been focused on building a strong community through helping individuals. Our organization will be having four fun and physically active events to celebrate Oakville’s history and the amazing work of our volunteers.

The events will be for mentors and mentees and family members from our three key programs: Adventure Canada Club (newcomers), Homework Club, and One-to-One community mentoring. The events will provide a space for people in Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton to meet when they might not have otherwise met before, to build a stronger network, and to have FUN!
